Statement of the MEOE Magyar Mudi Klub

The MMK wishes to express its gratitude for all those wonderful people, who worked so hard with the rescuing, caretaking and providing of temporary homes for the dogs of the Sopron dog-camp. We hope that the court will make the correct judgement at the end of the trial for cruelty against animals, which will serve as an exemplar for the future, as well.
In the coming weeks the civil organizations, like the Mudi Klub, should concentrate their powers to the appropriate management of the rescued dogs future. We consider the following two objectives to have the highest importance:

(1) The humane treatment of the dogs. (2) These dogs are coming mainly from breeding experiments (breed-hybridization, close inbreeding) and carry as well as exhibit genetic defects (albinism, deafness, blindness). Additionally, the lack of socialization and human contact has caused serious mental underdevelopment and/or degeneration in many of them. Therefore the MMK considers these dogs as a risk and danger for the future of the Mudi breed and they should be spayed and neutered.

The individual identification of the dogs with microchip was a very good start. The next step for the MMK, in agreement with the organizers and executors of the rescue, requires that spaying and neutering has the primary importance in the case of each dog that goes to an adopting home. This is the only secure means to avoid the irresponsible breeding of these dogs.
The MMK works for the possibility to support financially the spaying/neutering process of the dogs where the lack of money impedes it. As a starting point for this, we will investigate the situation in the temporary homes and dog shelters. We ask for the help of these facilities to make it possible for the appointed members of the Magyar Mudi Klub to visit and examine the Sopron dogs. We should know exactly the mental/physical state of these dogs, their sex and age, and the extent they show the characteristics of the Mudi breed.

We thank you for your cooperation, sincerely

Dr. Péter Pongrácz (president of the Magyar Mudi Klub)
